Subject: Los Al BYOD Parent Education Night - Security Protection & Updates

Dear Los Alamitos Unified Parents and Guardians,

We are excited and grateful for the student participation we see in our "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) program grades 3-12 at all schools. BYOD allows students and staff to bring and use their own technology during the day to enhance teaching and learning at Los Al. This program supports Project-Based-Learning opportunities across the curriculum and the State Standards in Technology encompassing collaboration, research and presentation skills. BYOD also models the post-secondary college setting where students use their personal device to succeed in their education after high school graduation. BYOD allows all students to continue learning beyond the school walls, increasing engagement and collaboration, and providing the comfort and familiarity of using one’s own device.

Please join us at the BYOD Parent Education Night below to learn more about the BYOD program, Internet/Web safety, our curriculum on digital citizenship, and our new Securly web filter. Securly (www.securly.com) protects students connected to our school resources with advanced Internet supervision. Securly also sends parent alerts as well as provides an app to review their student’s Internet activity. Parents will receive an invitation to participate in this app.

If you cannot make the parent night, below are some resources that will help you learn more about Los Alamitos Unified advanced protection for students while maintaining the access students and teachers need to empower learning experiences.
